Reading further, we stumbled upon the following sentence: “Men and summer, it is usually a complicated affair. You only have to look around you at weddings, openings, parties but also on terraces to see the men dressed in their far too warm, dark outfits, melting under unbearable temperatures of 32 C. Or even worse, totally underdressed fooling around in three-quarter pants, Malibu shirts and sandals, even though the dress code clearly states ‘Smoking’.”

And that while the solution is so simple: the white shirt can always be done, in any season, but especially in summer, when the danger of perspiration lurks and other light colors force the wearer to stiffly pressed arms. Especially at those times, when the heat is no longer bearable and the jacket goes off, that the white shirt does its service to the man. Because say it yourself; in fact, there is no more stylish and flattering garment for the male upper body. The white shirt suits every occasion.

So does Karl Lagerfeld, whose immortal words are: “If you want to know from me what I would most like to have designed, it is the white shirt. It is the starting point for everything. Everything else comes after that”.

A nice outlier, which of course we as designers of the perfect white shirt wholeheartedly agree with.
